Video: Interior Air Sealing for Maximum Energy Efficiency

Posted in: video

This video, part of a series from the Oregon contractor Hammer & Hand, describes how to air seal the interior of a home to maximize the effectiveness of super energy efficient, European "Passive House" style windows.

Air Sealing Where it Counts

The graph below shows which structural air-leaks drive up energy costs the most, allowing you to maximize efforts toward reinforcing your home's building envelope.

Energy: Where's it Come From and Where Does it Go?

Posted in: infographic

Ever wonder where our country's energy comes from and goes to? This fascinating map from the Lawrence Livermore Labratory shows in simple graphic terms where we generate energy and how much of it goes to various sectors. One of the fascinating aspects of this is everything you see in gray--"Rejected Energy." What this really means is waste. Particularly in electricity, as much as 2/3 of all the energy created is lost during transmission and via other means before it actually does any work. All the more reason to generate your electricity right at home on your roof.

Why should you use Energy Management Solutions?

 Experience and Expertise

EMS has built a large database of knowledge that we apply to deliver solutions that meet our customers needs, expectations and budgets.

Irvington, NJ & EMS Partnership

EMS partners with the Township of Irvington to manage its 2 year 10% Energy Cut Challenge.
EMS has also partnered with Chapman Programs to open a local office and offer its full set of
Energy Courses to local residents.

The goal is to weatherize 1,100 units per year and create 50 local jobs.
We are excited to say we are way ahead of our goals.

VAUXHALL,N.J. & EMS Partnership

EMS sponsored a Save Energy Seminar that filled the room at the local library.  The deputy Mayor and a Union County Freeholder attended the seminar.

Over ten homeowners signed up for home audits.  It was so successful they are immediately promoting more seminars to Union, N.J. homeowners.

FLEXTECH Small Commercial Audit Training

EMS was holding a new salesmen training seminar on the NYSERDA FLEXTECH Audit program.  EMS currently has over 15 FLEXTECH salespeople and is training another 15 within the month of May.

EMS markets the program through most of New York State.

FLEXTECH audits small business (Diner size and down) analyzing all the energy users in their space and then suggest new retrofit technology to save money for the building owners.

EMS is about to launch a new cellulose insulation plant.  Cellulose is the first choice for insulation with the DOT
(Department of Energy and BPI (Building Performance Institute) the national weatherization contractor’s accreditation organization.

Cellulose is made from recycled newspaper and an anti-fungal and fire retardant chemical called Borate.
Once it is mixed, contractors blow it into walls and attics of buildings.

This is only the second plant in NY and it will create over 20 new local green jobs
EMS will be coordinating paper drives to use local paper therefore lowering our carbon footprint.
EMS will be holding a ribbon cutting ceremony soon to open the plant

EMS participated in AEA’s (Association for Energy Affordability, Inc.) Green Job Fair in the Bronx N.Y.
EMS and CWE (Consortium for Worker Education) will choose 12 candidates to attend a new training program
written and taught by EMS.
