Heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) account for 50-60 percent of a typical household's energy consumption. You can cut this usage by more than half by air sealing your house, adding insulation to your walls and attic, and installing the QUANTAPANEL® IGS on the interior or exterior of your existing windows.

TheQuantaPanel IGS reduces energy consumption in four major ways:

1) Reduces air infiltration
Inefficient windows allow outside air to seep in and inside air to seep out. The QUANTAPANEL® IGS reduces this air exchange by sealing the existing window; eliminating cold drafts in the winter and blocking out humid air in the summer. The installation of QUANTAPANEL® IGS has been demonstrated to reduce air infiltration of the entire home by 6-11%, based upon before and after blower door tests conducted by BPI auditors and NAHB Research Center.

2) Reduces conductive and convective loss
Installing a QUANTAPANEL® IGS over an existing window creates a static air space which acts as an insulating barrier. This static air barrier substantially limits both conductive and convective heat loss.

3) Reduces radiant heat loss
People and objects radiate heat, and with the QUANTAPANEL's patented low emissivity (low-e) glass, >84 percent of that heat reflects back into the room. Clear glass without low-e coating allows 85 percent of the room's radiant heat to pass through the window.

4) Optimizes solar heat gain
The low-e glass coating on the QUANTAPANEL® IGS optimizes the window's solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC), or the amount of sun's energy that passes through the glass. Depending upon on geographic location, homes that spend more money heating than cooling should employ a coating that is designed to maximize the SHGC; while, homes that spend more money cooling than heating should employ a coating that is designed to minimize the SHGC. For climates with both heating and cooling seasons (Northeast and Midwest), the QUANTAPANEL's SHGC is optimized to deliver maximum overall annual energy savings.

This infrared photo includes three windows. The center window is an existing, untreated single pane window, while the right and left windows have been retrofit with QUANTAPANEL® IGS units. At the time this photo was taken, the ambient air temperature was 35oF. The exterior surface temperatures of the untreated window was between 11-14oF higher than the QUANTAPANEL® IGS units, due to the substantial heat load that was escaping the home through the untreated window's clear glass. On the other hand, the QUANTAPANEL® IGS units are far more insulating and retain the heat in the home, as most of the radiant heat passing through the underlying clear glass windows is reflected back into the house by the QUANTAPANEL's patented low-e coating.
